AI Is Increasing The Demand For Good Domain Names

A few weeks ago I discussed how I have been through so many transformative moments in time since I first started investing in single word, category defining, and exact match domain names in 1997: the dawn of the Internet & domains, the bursting of the bubble in 2000, the birth of search engines redefined by Google, the arrival of social media platforms, the iPhone & mobile app era, and now, AI. Throughout them all, the future importance of these domains has been questioned and doubted and in each instance, they have become stronger and more strategically important; in essence, the single most valuable balance sheet asset a company can invest in to achieve trust, credibility, email security, ROI on advertising & marketing, and leadership. This week, Dharmesh Shah posted something that validated this in a massive way, coming from the founder of one of the Internet’s most successful tech platforms (HubSpot), and an early pioneer in AI. Dharmesh said, “an incidental impact of vibe coding and agentic coding are that website domains are becoming more valuable”. You can read the post in its entirety here https://shorturl.at/1yiHK

It’s Time For Q4!

This is the final RST post in Q3, which means next Sunday, we will be in the home stretch of 2025. For years, I have stressed that one of the most positive aspects of the most valuable .com domain asset class is they are recession resistant and transactions occur in every month of the year. I have done some of my largest domain deals in the peak of summer and even, between Xmas and New Years. With that said, Q4 and Q1 tend to be important markers and are typically the strongest. It has been a very good 2025 to date and I have consistently stated that I expect the year to end with several high profile domain asset transactions, as AI accelerates, fundings occur, and M&A activity increases. I do worry a bit about October, and sense some uncertainty in the markets. Historically, October can see some powerful corrections, triggered by something even small and often unforeseen. There is no doubt that at some point, there will be an AI bubble burst. Not all these companies will make it, and a shakeout has to happen before we go to the next level. It is healthy and necessary. However, I am very encouraged about conversations we have started to have around many of the world’s most valuable domain names that we own or represent. In the past week, I was on call after call, with company after company, which was a very encouraging way to enter Q4.
