The Importance of .com: A Lesson in Strategic Domain Investment

I had a conversation this week with a young, promising Founder of a growing company using an exact match non-.com, rarely used TLD, about how strategically important the .com (which we are representing) is for them in the short to long term. The company recently raised a solid round of funding.

The founder cannot see the forest through the trees despite listening to my insight, our sharing many recent case studies, and my “gentle warning,” how the exact match .com is a must-have for his company. I feel badly because I know, with 24 years of experience and track record, what the potential repercussions will be later. The company leadership has worked so hard and built a great product.

It is not the first time nor will it be the last. Some get it, others learn an expensive lesson.
