Greatest Domain Ever
What is the single greatest exact match premium domain name case study of all time? No sillies, it’s not our Chat.com deal! Last night, after a family dinner, we decided to watch the movie Blackberry. It was nostalgic for sure. I tend to try things early. I got into premium dotcom domains early; I had a car phone before any of my friends: I beta tested DraftKings in 2012, and I was a very early Blackberry adopter. I loved my Blackberry, but I abandoned it when something better, iPhone, came around. The “netscaping” of Blackberry by Apple was something else. Blackberry went from 45% market share to 0%. And, Apple, my friends, is the greatest domain name story of all time. On February 19, 1987, Apple Inc registered the Apple.com domain name, making it the 64th .com domain ever to be registered. Steve Jobs got it, and knew he could not be AppleComputer.com. On Friday, Apple hit an all-time market cap of $3 Trillion Dollars. If you bought Apple stock when the first iPhone came out and held it, as of Friday you would be up 840+ percent. I have a close friend who did just that, has never sold a share, and is worth tens of millions from Apple alone. If you run a company of any size and you question whether you should acquire your exact match domain name asset, there are thousands of real-world case studies but look no further than Apple. Innovative Domain Initiatives, Key Partnerships, and Exciting New Investments
We are working on a lot of strategic domain name-related initiatives at Hilco Digital Assets; we are acquiring and selling domains for our clients all over the world and our own investment; we are a significant shareholder in Squadhelp, the most cutting edge brand and domain name marketplace; and, we are working on something stealth behind the scenes, an investment in VentureCapital.com and PrivateEquity.com, two massive category domains. If we are successful, we will open up some exciting new doors for domain investors and asset holders. More to come on this in the next several months.
