The Importance of Case Studies

Over many years, I have had thousands of discussions with the most established CEOs in the world, public company boards, private investors, and top Founders, regarding the strategic importance of the most premium exact match (ie, Rocket*com) and category defining (ie. Chat*com, Gold*com) domain names. Many of these conversations have resulted in a transaction for the domain, and many others have planted the seed that later materialized. And some just do not resonate. Fortunately, the sheer number of leaders that understand the value and the conveyance of trust, credibility, authority, memorability, and elimination of potential confusion over their digital address, is massive, and has created trillions of dollars of enterprise value. I often find it most inspirational when we can point to recent executives who have spoken publicly about the value in concrete terms. A few of these follow:

-Chat*com; Sam Altman simply posted on X, “Chat*com”. There was nothing else to say.

-Public*com; After upgrading from HelloPublic, CEO Jannick Malling posted on X, “yes, it works 2x-3x better for digital ads/cvr… and for non-digital (OOH etc), more like 50x-100x better”

-Gravity*com; Upon acquiring the domain and transitioning from GravityForms, CEO Carl Hancock posted, “one thing i’ve learned from just a few days of owning the domain name with a catch all email address is if your company begins contains the word “Gravity” people assume your email address is @gravity.com. The single word dot com effect is real.”

-Acquire*com’s Andrew Gazdecki said; “We’ve seen a lift all across the company but more importantly…. we’ve seen conversion rates increase across the board. All metrics, including conversion rates, overall traffic, and revenue have also grown.”

All in Due Time

This was an exciting week for us at Hilco Digital Assets, and will contribute to powerful validation of domain asset values in the near term. After 5 years of discussions, we agreed to a deal with a large healthcare company to acquire its exact match domain. This week and next Sunday, I will post what it is and I hope it helps other similar companies in the health and fitness category understand the importance of acquiring their’s. We also signed several other deals, one a high 7 figure transaction and one 8 figure, that in both cases, the acquiring entity will be disclosing the price this summer. These are both very proven founders so the importance of the domains to their businesses will be great to hear about and see.
