A Volatile World

There has been a significant amount of “euphoria” since the election, that initially translated into a strong surge in financial sentiment, the markets, and Bitcoin and crypto. I have discussed the return to healthy venture investment liquidity, and its positive ripple effect on the most valuable exact match and category defining domain name assets, in this post on a few occasions. In the past week, there has been more uncertainty, questioning of political moves, the risk of inflation and home sales shifting in favor of the buyer for the first time in years, as well as a small correction in Bitcoin and the stock market. The reality is, there is a lot of uncertainty in the world, more than any time I can recall, and there are going to be ebbs and flows. There always are. However, I am bullish on bitcoin long term, buying Uber and JetBlue, and most of all, I remain extremely confident that as they usually do, the most premium .com domain names will outperform all asset classes in their value. Tech innovation is occurring faster than ever before, led by AI, investments are being made in this growth, and the leading companies that have and are acquiring their exact match or category defining domain name are recognizing that it is the single most important and strategic investment across all facets of the business, worth an exponential increase in enterprise value and thus a powerful ROI, as well as potentially saving tens-hundreds of millions of risk by not having it.

Near.com – Sold!

We at Hilco Digital Assets are excited about overseeing the sale of Near*com, in a win-win for the buyer and seller, and have 4 more exact match and category defining domain transactions closing this week (I had hoped they would be done by today), so hopefully I can discuss next Sunday. Another deal we worked on, Tiger*com, for which we negotiated a payment plan that worked for both sides, transferred to Tiger Trade this week after payment was completed. So excited for that company to have this asset and to see how big they can get with the brand. We are in so many other serious discussions with leading companies on the domains we represent or own, and I know some of my peers report the same, which is a strong indication that more and more CEOs, founders and investors are understanding the strategic value of their businesses’ exact match domains.
