Speculation Regarding AI.com

Very strong caveat here. I was not involved in this deal or non-deal, so this is just my gut take, which absolutely may be wrong. There has been a lot of speculation about the AI.com domain name, fueled by a very unknown India-based source. This follows similar speculation about OpenAI acquiring the same domain a couple of months ago. The recent story speculated that Elon Musk acquired the domain from OpenAI. This is all based on where AI.com directs. TechCrunch wrote, “It’s worth noting that OpenAI never did actually confirm it bought the domain, and Musk has not yet, and would never return our emails.”

As many know, I oversaw the sale and acquisition of Chat.com in March. Serious negotiations happened in real-time with a handful of major ChatGPT companies. I believe that in that process, I would have known about AI.com. It continues to be my belief that this speculation is inaccurate, and the domains were and are just being pointed to ChatGPT and now X.ai but have not necessarily been acquired. 🤷‍♂️. I would love to be proven wrong. We will see.

Domain Sales and Acquisitions Update

Great week. Hilco Digital Assets oversaw the sale of Chocolate.com, a great outcome for both sides, and so much more success to come for the acquirer. Very exciting. Additionally, we oversaw the sale of another big one, an amazing brandable. We need to hold off until 8/26 to congratulate all.

Lastly, we acquired the exact match, category domain Frozen.com with Braden Pollock. Again, going with my gut; I just loved this acquisition. We are also in the advanced stages of some more significant sales. It looks like early fall. No doubt, ultra-premium domains are really strong investments right now.
