An Update to Random Sunday Thoughts

Doing anything on a regular basis requires unwavering commitment. Whether it is exercise, eating healthy, practicing for a sport, or excelling in business. This includes writing Random Sunday Thoughts (RST). When I started this weekly post, it was largely because I believed it was something I could do consistently. I admire DomainSherpa and Andrew Allemann for recording every week, and Ron Jackson for his weekly efforts. Unless you do this, it is easy to underestimate the time it takes to deliver consistently. A few weeks ago, I decided to experiment with a RST Newsletter. What I learned was, it felt like a chore more than anything and RST has always been a passion, even on those weeks it is a grind. Trying to write this post and not exceed the word limit is like a puzzle I enjoy each week. With that said, The RST post will continue passionately here every Sunday as always, with #162 today, and I have decided to pivot to a monthly newsletter, that will be a combination of our Hilco Digital Assets newsletter and a “recap” of RST.

The Exact Match Domain Name Is More Important Than Ever

The value of the most premium domain names continue to rise, and the importance of a business owning its exact match or category domain is being highlighted by the smartest CEO’s, Founders, and investors. The companies that understand this realize that it is the most strategic investment across all facets of the business, from garnering trust and credibility, email security and accuracy, brand recall, ROI on paid search, social and OOH advertising, in fundraising and on exit. It is offensive and defensive. For those that believe they can “cheat” the system and be called “ABC” but get away with an on ramp type address like “JoinABC*com” or ABC*io forever, are not paying attention to the countless leading companies that have made the investment to their exact match domain. Oftentimes, they realize it when it is too late, and there is no recovery. To that end, it was another strong week for Hilco Digital Assets as we oversaw the sale of Odyssey*com in a significant transaction as reported by Elliot Silver, https://lnkd.in/eymMJVRz. On the heels of this, we will be closing two other notable transactions this week, a .com and a strong outcome for a one word .ai domain. I will do my best to say what I can on these.
