The Most Interesting People in the World

Two of the many aspects that I love about investing in and advising on the most valuable domain names, which I have done for 26 years, are the people I get to meet and work with, and the domains themselves, each which have their own meaning or story as to why I invested in or advised on them. How many people get to text with the likes of Sam Altman, Dharmesh Shah, Bijan Tehrani, President Clinton, Fortune 100 CEOs, the most reputable VC’s and founders, and ultimately transact with them. Even more so, it’s the “ordinary” people I get to meet and have helped over the years, from the sweetest woman who lost her husband and relied on the sale of her category domain for a secure future to the married couple retiring on the proceeds. This week, we closed an 8 figure transaction for an individual domain owner who dm’d me with “you are a Rock Star”. Who does not want to be called a Rock Star, lol. From my peers to clients to those we advise, domains are the great connector. I have often said that domains are one of the greatest cocktail party/bar conversation topics of them all. Excited to keep generating stories to tell!

The Most Interesting Domains in the World

Speaking of which, this week we at Hilco Digital Assets were engaged on several new domain names that I am so excited about. The first is Manga*com. I have learned a lot about anime from my 23 year old son, a One Piece aficionado. I was sold when I saw half the Boston Red Sox team wearing One Piece swag as part of a promotion at a recent game, and then hearing several of the players, as well as many NBA stars, discussing how they never miss an episode. If you do not know what this is, Manga (like a comic book) is what precedes Anime (the film or tv show). One Piece is worth billions and is amongst the top 10 highest-grossing media franchises worldwide. The global market size for Manga is expected to grow from its current $15b to $30b in 2030. The domain is the end-all-be-all category defining asset. We also are advising on the sale of Sphere*com, which has wide ranging possibilities but as many of you know, I have taken in multiple Dead and Company shows at the Sphere in Vegas and each time, I am blown away by the experience. Another, College*com, comes full circle for me as it was one of the first few domains I was involved with almost 25 years ago. We also add world class brands Monarch*com and Micro*com.
