My Favorite Topics

If you are a regular reader of Random Sunday Thoughts, you know that there are certain topics that I return to often. These include the strategic importance of a company that wants to cement its brand dominance by acquiring its exact match or category defining .com domain name; the patience and negotiation expertise that is required to close a high value domain name transaction; and citing use cases of companies and management teams that have leveraged or are successfully in the process of executing on their domain acquisitions; and of course, Bitcoin, my obsessions with winning a millionaire maker on Draftkings, and the importance of family. This is a long winded way of getting to my next thought.

Fairway Putting Home.com to Work

I have often referenced our sale of the category defining name Home*com, as a world-class example of an industry leader making a massive decision to acquire a domain name asset to take bold steps to grow. Now years in the works, Fairway is rebranding to Home*com, https://lnkd.in/efbG3amG. I have pointed to videos of Fairway’s David Laz discussing the deal and why Fairway acquired the asset, which can be seen here, https://lnkd.in/e4QBbRRp. Now, it is GO time. We also oversaw the Rocket*com transaction by Rocket Mortgage, who used the Super Bowl to launch its global rebranding initiative. This past week, we completed a deal for a 3 letter domain name that will be a game changing move for the AI company that acquired it (more specifics on this next week). In the next few weeks, I have been given the green light to discuss deals we represented for 2 other category defining domains, one upper 7 and one 8 figures. I am hopeful some of these same CEO’s will join my opening NamesCon session to discuss the importance of the domains they acquired, in real time.

Networking

I made the short drive down to Providence this week to have coffee with my friend Andrew Rosener, in town for a quick vacation. We ended up taking a 3 mile walk around Providence, and bouncing many business, crypto, and domain related thoughts off one another, which is always super inspiring. We both agree that the value of the highest end .com domain name assets are going to continue to appreciate.
